My Journey to Africa from South to North, and Everything in-between

The Trip

A couple years ago my two cousins decided they wanted to go to South Africa for the world cup, and I was invited to join. Simple enough, right? Hardly.

From that initial idea grew the great African adventure. 9 countries, 5 world cup games, 3 people, 2 1/2 months, 1 car.

The plan: I fly out of California on June 1st, and after a couple layovers in New York and Amsterdam land in Cape Town and meet up with my cousins who got there the day before. Then on August 14th we fly out of Cairo and back to the USA. From all the way South to all the way North, our journey is to figure out how to make it up there in time.

The games have been applied for and awarded. The plane tickets have been purchased. The route has been finalized. The backpackers have been booked in SA. Friends of friends in the area have been contacted. The car has FINALLY been found. But of course that’s only the beginning, and there’s a million other little things that need to be figured out along the way.

So, feel free to join me on one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken in my life… financially, personally, everything. But what’s life without a little risk, right? Even for an organization OCD freak such as myself.

                     Seriously.

A tentative itinerary is in the works. Here’s what we’ve got so far!

Also, below is a map-in-progress of our journey. We’ll try and update it as we’re going along.
