Accidental Nairobi
July 29-30
Pat, Robb and I, after leaving the Simpsons in Zanzibar, spent one last evening in Dar es Salaam before making our journey up and out of Tanzania. Originally we wanted to pass through the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, but a series of events led us to the decision that just doing the Masai Mara in Kenya (which is really just the top part of the Serengeti/Savannah plains) would be a smarter choice.
We spent the evening after Dar in Moshi, a smallish town at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro (and thus a jumping-off point for many a Kili hiker), and had AMAZING Indian food. Seriously. All of the eastern coast of Africa apparently rocks for Indian cuisine. The next morning we headed off for what we had hoped would be the Masai Mara, but of course (story of our trip) the drive took longer than expected and we had to stop in Nairobi for the night instead.
On the plus side we found an awesome backpackers whose owners hooked us up with a cheap campsite in the Masai for the next two days, and we got, at long last, delish Ethiopian food (as close to Ethiopia as I could manage).
Proof:

However, DO NOT eat the boiled eggs in the dish. I repeat: DO NOT EAT THE BOILED EGGS. Without giving anyone more details than they wanted to know about my health, let’s just say I was up all night feeling very… uncomfortable? To put it mildly. This of course carried over to the next day, when we of course were going to be off-roading, going on a Safari and being in an extremely bumpy car for the entire day. Of course.
But you know what? At least now I know I can handle it.
